All of us try to think positively and avoid negative thinking in our lives. There is a correct approach as well as a wrong approach to affiliate marketing. This article is pointed at a few of the the negatives — pointing out five things you should avoid in your affiliate marketing.
1. Stay Focused and don’t try to do every type of affiliate marketing.
If you don’t stay focused and divide your attention you will not do any one thing well. It is difficult to do article marketing when you are also trying to set up membership sites or design blogs for other people. A better alternative is to choose one type of affiliate marketing and stick to it until you start making money.
2. Avoid “shiny objects”.
When you are working on line there are lots of distractions. Since you are already on your computer, it is easy to check your emails and be suddenly presented with all kinds of get rich schemes, new software, new SEO techniques, etc. These are all “shiny objects” that you do not want to pay attention to.
You will get better results by simply setting aside 30 minutes a day to check your emails and limiting yourself to that time only. Once you start working on a project.
3. Do not believe everything you read.
This is actually a matter of good sense. Do you really think every person who claims to have made a million dollars in affiliate marketing is telling the truth? Sadly, that is not the case.
When you need advice on how to do something new online, check some forums that have seasoned affiliate marketers who are willing to answer questions or give opinions without trying to sell you something.
4. Avoid selling.
The reason selling is a bad idea is because people do not like to be “sold to.” Do you like to open an email and be hit with “You need to buy this product because it will make you a million dollars, it’s be best product there is…?” Of course you don’t. No one does.
Instead simply talk about a product and provide people with good information. Be honest and discuss both the pros and cons of products you feature on your sites.
5. Don’t give up.
The people who are successful in affiliate marketing are the people who keep working at it.
I was recently looking at a sales page for an affiliate marketing product. This page has been online since 2010. On the page are 15 endorsements, each from other affiliate marketers who provided a link to their respective website. I clicked all 15 links — only three were still active. I assume the rest of the folks had given up.
Do not forget that persistence is what pays off in the end. Choose a specific type of affiliate marketing, stay focused and avoid the shiny things. Don’t get distracted by empty promises, and learn good marketing techniques.
You can make a good living in affiliate marketing. Don’t give up.
